SAN FRANCISCO – June 28, 2018 – We’re excited to announce the newest member to join the JS Foundation, Particle, a fully-integrated Internet of Things (IoT) platform.
Particle is a scalable, reliable, and secure Internet of Things device platform that enables businesses to quickly and easily create and manage IoT solutions. More than 8,500 customers, 140,000 developers, and half the Fortune 500 have deployed the company’s hardware and software offerings, with customers ranging from global energy provider Engie and design studio Ideo to indoor crops provider Grow Labs.
“We believe in the power of open source which has always played a major role in our approach to product development at Particle,” said Jeff Eiden, Senior Product Manager at Particle. “Supporting the JS Foundation is one step in showing our gratitude towards the open source community and investing in its continued growth. We’re especially excited to contribute to the JS Foundation’s projects that address challenges in IoT.”
“JavaScript has seen significant growth in IoT recently”, said Kris Borchers, Executive Director of the JS Foundation. “The JS Foundation has been investing heavily in technologies like Node-RED, a programming tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways, and JerryScript, the lightweight JavaScript engine intended to run on very constrained devices such as microcontrollers. Both projects are used in a variety of production devices such as Node-RED shipping on Opto 22’s groov Edge Appliance and the Fitbit Ionic as well as FitBit’s newest smartwatch, Fitbit Versa, which are both built with JerryScript.”
Particle joins a group of industry peers to help build and shape the ecosystem for JavaScript technology, its use cases and applications. With this addition, we continue to build support throughout our project ecosystem and evolve the model for sustainable open source JavaScript from a single project focus to an encompassing, umbrella effort across the many projects driving innovation in this space. Keep an eye out for more great content and announcements from our newest member.
