SAN FRANCISCO – January 17, 2018 – We’re excited to announce the newest member to join the JS Foundation, Cloud Grey, a consultancy founded to help companies use Appium successfully. Jonathan Lipps, Appium project lead and architect, founded Cloud Grey in response to the growing popularity of the project and the increased need for Appium specialists to advise on enterprise use cases.
“We’re really excited to have Cloud Grey join the JS Foundation to further strengthen our support of the Appium project which continues to be the go-to test automation tool for developers,” said Kris Borchers, Executive Director of the JS Foundation. “By partnering directly with organizations providing sustainable support to our projects, we help JS Foundation projects continue to grow and thrive knowing that they have the backing of organizations putting real resources behind their success while also increasing awareness of the valuable support our member organizations like Cloud Grey provide to the JavaScript ecosystem.”
Appium is an open source test automation framework for native, hybrid, mobile web and desktop apps. With over 6,000 stars on GitHub, Appium has become one of the most popular tools for test automation. This popularity is why Cloud Grey was founded, to provide a dedicated resource to all organizations leveraging Appium in their test suite.
The formation of Cloud Grey also allows Jonathan to expand his focus on Appium and remain active on the open source project leadership committee and in contributing code. Cloud Grey’s first project to benefit the general Appium public will be the release of Appium Pro, a free once-weekly newsletter with tips, tricks, and other community news.
By joining the JS Foundation, Cloud Grey is reinforcing its commitment to the sustainability of the Appium project. “ I knew that Cloud Grey would seek membership with the JS Foundation from the beginning, not just because I led the effort to bring Appium into the JS Foundation in 2016 but also because becoming a member of the JS Foundation from day one of the company was a natural choice. Cloud Grey would not exist were it not for Appium, and Appium would not be the success it is today without drawing on the wealth of the JS ecosystem at large,” said Lipps. “At Cloud Grey we therefore believe in supporting Appium and the rest of the JS ecosystem financially, as well as with ongoing code contributions and project leadership. We hope that this move will also encourage other for-profit enterprises that depend on Appium to consider supporting the project and ecosystem in the same way.”
With the addition of Cloud Grey as our newest member, we continue to build support throughout our project ecosystem and evolve the model for sustainable open source JavaScript from a single project focus to an encompassing, umbrella effort across the many projects driving innovation in this space. Keep an eye out for more great content and announcements from our newest member.
